His research is about developing tools that can assess whether text and icons have adequate size and sufficient contrast for their intended use case scenario. Sam championed the Cambridge website for eCommerce image recommendations (https://ecommerce.inclusivedesigntoolkit.com), and developed the Clari-Fi software, which uses Gaussian blurring to determine if text and icons are sufficiently visually clear up within eCommerce primary and secondary images https://clarifi.inclusivedesigntoolkit.com/commerce_intro
Mobile commerce accounts for about two thirds of all eCommerce retail, with many consumers only looking at thumbnail images of a product before adding to basket. Shockingly, most product images viewed at thumbnail sizes don’t communicate the critical things shoppers need to know – including the brand, type of product, variant, and size. This talk will explain how you can check your eCommerce primary and secondary images to see whether the text and numerals have adequate size and sufficient contrast. See a live demo of a new AI-driven tool called RHINO, which can automatically test size and contrast within thousands of images, and estimate the effectiveness of the entire eCommerce image portfolio for your brand.
